Bahrain’s skyline lit up with McLaren colours earlier this week after buildings and landmarks took on the team’s papaya hues in celebration of winning the Formula 1 Constructors' Championship for the first time in 26 years.
Lando Norris took first-place in the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which brought further joy to His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, who was at the Yas Marina Circuit at the time of the victory.
It’s been a momentous occasion for the kingdom with telecoms even sharing that McLaren are F1 champs as part of their phone networks.
Meanwhile, Norris is thrilled saying, ‘It feels incredible, not just for myself but for the whole team’.
Norris joined McLaren’s young driver programme in 2017 and made his F1 debut with the squad in 2019.
He added: “The team have done an amazing job this year to come from where we were at the beginning. I’m so proud of everyone – it’s been a lovely journey.
“And to end the season like this is perfect, so just a congrats and big thank you to everyone in McLaren, everyone in papaya, everyone who supported us this year because it’s been a tough one. For us to win a constructors’ after 26 years is pretty special.”
