Canter put the ‘Can’-do in winning the Cup

Laurie Canter has won the 2025 Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship and claim his second DP World Tour title after defeating Pablo Larrazabal and Dan Brown in a play-off at the Bahrain Royal Golf Club.

The Englishman appeared to fall just short after a solid round of 69, featuring an eagle and a birdie, which put him in a tie for the clubhouse lead at 14 under.

However, he got a second chance when leader Larrazábal bogeyed the final hole, leading to a playoff with Canter and fellow Englishman Brown. Canter seized the opportunity, hitting a remarkable shot at the first playoff hole that set up a birdie putt. He calmly sank the winning putt, securing his second DP World Tour victory of the year, following his maiden win at the European Open last season.

Canter expressed his joy, sharing that while he didn’t play his best tee-to-green game, his strong putting helped keep him in the competition.

“It feels great,” said Canter, who was presented with the trophy by His Royal Highness Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain. “I really like had to hang in the first couple of rounds this week. I was scoring nicely, not great tee to green, just putting well.

“Last night I had a chat with my coach Mike Walker, and he gave me a couple of ideas to improve my iron play. I hit the ball great today and putted terribly. It’s just kind of how it goes.

“I'm so chuffed to have stuck in there. It's unfortunate what happened to Pablo (Larrazábal) but I'm absolutely delighted to have stuck in and got another win.”

Larrazábal and Brown shared second place on 14 under, one shot ahead of Martin Couvra, Ivan Cantero, Richie Ramsay and David Puig following a thrilling final round.
